20-Year-Old Herizen Fawn (Mylene) From ‘The Get Down’ Is Dating a 16-Year-Old Boy

‘The Get Down’ on Netflix has gained a massive following since its release last year. It resonates with people of color, and the music is also an added bonus. One of the stars of the show is Herizen Fawn, who plays Mylene Cruz.

Recently news has surfaced that 20-year-old soon to be 21-year-old Herizen Fawn is dating a 16-year-old. Why is that such a big deal? Well in California, the age of consent is 17.

“In California, there is a Romeo and Juliet exemption for consensual sex between minors who are three or fewer years apart in age. However, this is a limited exception because it serves to reduce the conduct from a felony to a misdemeanor offense. The conduct is still illegal, but someone protected by this exception will face smaller fines and reduced jail time”

Herizen can face jail time for having a relationship with this young boy. Beyond that, they’re in two different places in their lives. A 20 year old, faces different obstacles and a way different life compared to someone who is 16-years-old. Herizen is of college age, and her boyfriend is at the age where he is still at least a sophomore or junior in high school. This relationship is highly inappropriate.

Since many users discovered this, Herizen turned off her Instagram comment. People were saying she should go to jail. Her alleged boyfriend also deleted his Instagram. Her team is saying that this is all fabricated. If this is all true, then Herizen is completely wrong for taking advantage of a boy who hasn’t developed mentally and isn’t mature yet.

People are asking for Herizen to now be replaced on ‘The Get Down’ due to this.
