Anna Faris and Chris Pratt announced in August their decision to split up after being married for eight years.
When Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence released their movie, Passengers, in December of last year, rumors began spreading about Pratt and Lawrence. Faris opened up about the subject in her memoir Unqualified:
“Before [Pratt and Lawrence] met in person, my publicist, out of the blue, pulled me aside,” she said. “‘Anna, listen there are going to be paparazzi all over them,’ she said. ‘There are going to be shots of them laughing together on their way to set. There are going to be stories circulating, and you have to brace yourself for this.'”
Faris says that she is confident in the fact that her husband was faithful to her during their marriage, but regardless of this fact, the rumors about Pratt and Lawrence were still hurtful.
Lawrence and Pratt were not involved in any way outside of their movie, but fans and the media were quick to place the blame this past August on Lawrence for Faris and Pratt’s decision to split.
Although she had no real reason to, Lawrence made sure to apologize to Faris for the hurtful rumors. Faris made a point to acknowledge the step that Lawrence made to reach out to her about the scandalous rumors.
Again in her memoir, Faris wrote: “Jennifer and I really are friendly, and she was apologetic even though she didn’t need to be because she hadn’t done anything wrong.”
She didn’t need to apologize, but she did. She wanted to show support and send love to Faris during the really difficult time she was forced to go through. And there is something important to be said about that interaction between them.
The media is constantly pitting women against one another — that is no secret. The Internet is notorious for attempting to destroy relationships. Faris and Pratt made the decision to split not because of any scandal, explaining in Unqualified that they “tried hard for a long time,” going on to explain that they were just “really disappointed.”
That is a really upsetting thing to read. But the two wanted to assure fans and the media that Lawrence had nothing to do with their split; no one had anything to do with their split. They simply couldn’t make it work any longer.
Faris and Lawrence made a beautiful statement and example of what it looks like to be kind, civil and forgiving. There has been no feud between the women, and there never will be. Because of how they reacted to the rumors, they have proved to the world that pitting women against each other is completely unjustified and useless.
We should support women supporting other women. Women need each other. Hopefully, this example will lead to more understanding and love, especially among women who unfortunately are attacked by nasty rumors.
