Songs to Help You Sleep at Night

July 1, 20185 min read

For the past month, I’ve found myself unable to go to sleep easily. This became a huge problem for me because I never had any problem with sleeping before. In fact, I used to be able to sleep until noon. After trying different ways to help me go to sleep, I found music to be the best technique. Here are 7 songs from my sleep playlist that never fail to help.

1.Us by James Bay and Alicia Keys.

Starting off with James Bay, any one of his songs can put you in the most relaxing mood, but when you add Alicia Keys’ breathtakingly smooth vocals, you get a song that can calm you to measures unbelievable. Their voices matched with a peaceful melody and tranquil backing harmonies make the perfect formula to help you fall asleep.

2.Lost Boys Life (Voice Memo) by Computer Games and Darren Criss

It is important that you listen to the voice memo version of this song because although the original version is amazing, the piano that replaces the synth in this version changes the whole mood of the song.

This version seems to be a raw, unedited phone recording of the song, making it feel more intimate. And what is better than to feel as if Darren Criss, with his angelic voice, is singing you to sleep.

3.New York State of Mind (Glee Cast Version) by Lea Michele and Melissa Benoist

Now, I know, I know, covers never do a song justice, but hear me out! The long piano intro is one of the most relaxing pieces of music ever. Moreover, the way the song transitions from Lea Michele’s vocals to Melissa Benoist’s is simply perfect.

4.TALK ME DOWN by Troye Sivan

Plausibly, almost every song from Troye Sivan’s debut album, Blue Neighborhood, can help you go to sleep, but this song in particular is best suitable because of the beautiful harmonies that enter mid-song and make you feel like you’re hearing a choir.

5.Just A Little Bit of Your Heart by Ariana Grande

This song is amazing as is, but when you add the fact that Harry Styles wrote it, it gives the song a spark that just makes it a bit more special.

6.lovely by Billie Eilish and Khalid

It is no secret that, separately, Khalid and Billie Eilish have very unique and soft voices. That is the reason why almost any of their songs can make it into the sleep playlist, but this collaboration of theirs has a very special place in the playlist.

7. Sick of Losing Soulmates by dodie

It’s dodie. Dodie Clark. That’s it. I have no other reason for this song, just the fact that it’s dodie and every song she writes and sings is magic.

In the end, music is something that can change your mood and give you so many different emotions. By taking advantage of that, we can use music to go into a calming state, relax and fall asleep.
