WOW!

Three K-Pop Groups That Made Their Comebacks in Spite of Tragedy

Life is the most uncertain thing in the world. A person doesn’t know how long he has but this is the actual charm of life. When it comes to life, celebrities are just as liable to death as any of the rest. What if you saw your favorite artist’s performance in a concert or an appearance on a  T.V. Show but the thought that maybe it would be the last of them you would see never crossed your mind. But such a thing actually happened. It is painful for you but it is even more painful for their families, co-workers and friends. For them, moving on and getting back on track is no picnic. Recently, there were some sad moments in the world of K-pop as three young, aspiring artists lost their lives, leaving their teammates with tragedy and suffering.

SHINee & Kim Jonghyun

SHINee is a Kpop boys band that made its debut in 2008. The group consisted of five members. Working under the label of SM Entertainment, they gained a lot of fame worldwide.

Kim Jonghyun, who was the main vocalist of the group and known for his high notes, fell a victim of depression due to overworking and bitter remarks and hate some prejudiced fans telling him to leave the group. He repeatedly complained about his depression but was ignored, and ultimately, his depression led him to dangerously take his own life on Dec. 18, 2017. After the tragic incidents, the bandmates of Jong Hyun and fans were badly shaken. The members went through the worst stage of sorrow.

The aftermath of the incident was really difficult for the members to face. They spent painful and hard days trying to face the reality. They struggled a lot but they didn’t give up and soon held a concert in Japan. Kim Ki Bum said,

The reason why we held a concert in Japan right after the incident is that we wanted to accept the reality and continue promoting. We wanted to do it ourselves rather than through others. It was hard how people continuously asked if I’m okay. I hope they just treat me the same.”

After a lot of efforts, they came up with an amazing concept and lightened the hearts of suffering fans by releasing not just one but three albums following the series The Story of Light. The albums were released on the event of their 10th Anniversary and elevated the emotions of their fans. The songs are so heartwarming and emotional. They dedicated a song with the title Our Page to the late member Jonghyun. In the music video, the daily life of the remaining four members, Onew, Key, Minho and Taemin can be seen trying to live their lives normally but there is sadness in the air. towards the end of the MV, a fifth empty mic can be seen which is supposed to be Jonghyun’s place. In the lyrics of the song, there are a lot of references like

I’ll say that I miss you
But it won’t fill up my empty heart tonight
We’re facing each other, we’re still the same
We’re still the boys who are dreaming

and

Whoa whoa
You did well (which is a reference to his letter in which he asked if he did well
Whoa whoa
Whoa whoa

Their comeback was a success and finally filled the gap in the heart of a lot of fans. And reached a lot of charts globally.

100% & it’s Leader Seo Min Woo

100% made its debut back in 2012 as a boys group of seven members with Minwoo as the leader of the group but due to issues like members leaving the group and military enlistment as in South Korea, it is mandatory for males between age 18-35 to enter and serve in the Military for a span of two years. 100% couldn’t reach the level of popularity other groups of the time had achieved.

They released three Japanese singles in 2017-18. The company had announced their concert in April 2018 but the leader of 100% MinWoo had a cardiac arrest in his apartment on March 25th from which he was unable to recover even after the help of paramedics arrived leading to the tragic death of Minwoo.
After his death, the members of 100% were in sorrow and people were saying that their future was uncertain but the remaining four members didn’t give up on their career and after a lot of hard work, they made an amazing comeback with single titled HEART and won the hearts of a lot of people from all around the world. A lot of fans commented on YouTube how they miss their idol and that he’ll always be there in their hearts.

Spectrum & Kim Dong Yoon
This colorful rookie group made its debut on May 10, 2018, under the label of WYNN entertainment. The group consisted of seven members like seven colors of light. But unfortunately, their days went blue due to the death of a member, Kim Dong Yoon on July 27, 2018.  The cause of his death is still unknown and an autopsy was requested by his family. His bandmates and fans were very sad about his sudden death.
After taking a long break, the remaining members of Spectrum made a tribute to Dongyoon by releasing the last song that was partially made by Dongyoon himself and showed his love for his fans. The MV titled Dear my shows all memories of Dongyoon with his teammates through his short journey in the Kpop world. Now they are trying to move on but neither the members nor the fans are willing to forget about Dongyoon. A lot of fans said that there will always be seven members in Spectrum and Dongyoon is an essential member.

What we should learn from these brave artists is that we cannot be certain about our lives and we have to stay strong and work hard even if we are going through tough times.
