Beyoncé just keeps giving. The singer has released a new video for her song “Freedom” highlighting International Day of The Girl.
The video produced by Beyoncé and Selma Hayek’s Chime For Change Initiative features a diverse group of young girls lip-synching to Beyoncé’s hit song Freedom, alongside statistics about young girls all over the world; including that 71% of worldwide human trafficking victims are girls and 130 million girls worldwide are out of school.
Oct. 11 has been declared this day by the United Nations because of youth advocacy around the world. This mission of this day is to “help galvanize worldwide enthusiasm for goals to better girls’ lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential.” On this day activist groups come together to discuss ways to take action and advance rights for girls everywhere. Day of the Girl in the United States is 100% youth led and they work year round to dismantle the patriarchy and fight for social justice with activism led by girls.
We want ourselves, and girls everywhere, to be seen as equals, in the eyes of others and in our own eyes.
Donations can be made to the Global Girls’ #FreedomForGirls page, which is just one of many organizations providing aid to girls all across the world.
Shoutout to Beyoncé and every girl fighting for our rights worldwide and check out the video below!
