Glenn Howerton Talks About Future of Dennis in ‘It’s Always Sunny’

January 27, 20182 min read

During the last season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, fans of the show were left in dismay, as the fate of Dennis Reynolds (Glenn Howerton) was left up in the air in an uncharacteristically tense season finale, “Dennis’ Double Life,” that saw Reynolds leave town upon discovering he had a son — Dennis Jr.

It’s Always Sunny is about a group of dysfunctional friends who own a bar together and get into unique and uncomfortable situations every episode.

The anticipation of whether Dennis was going to be in the next season was also heightened by Howerton focusing on his new comedy, A.P. Bio — though, when Howerton spoke to Entertainment Weekly, he mentioned how his new show won’t impact his character on It’s Always Sunny.

“I would like to dispel any rumors that I left It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia to do A.P. Bio. They are two completely different projects.” He continued, “So I haven’t left It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The conversation really should be about what’s going to happen with Dennis, not what’s going to happen with me, and that’s something we don’t have an answer to yet.”

“After 12 years, we’re trying to mix things up, we’re trying to do interesting things with the characters and trying not to tread on the same territory over and over again,” Howerton said.

Fans of the show took this as confirming Dennis would be coming back to the show in the next season but Howerton took to twitter to clear up any rumours of this and said he should always be apart of the show even if Dennis is not on our screens.

Howerton tweeted a picture of his thread (@GlennHowerton)

A.P. Bio will preview on Feb. 1 on NBC at 9:30 p.m. Though nothing has been confirmed, there are speculations that season 13 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will premier sometime this upcoming winter.
