Carly Rae Jepsen is back on her beat. It’s been two years since she released her EP Emotion Side B and three since the release of her fourth studio album, Emotion. Emotion became a sleeper hit in the internet and charts with its nostalgic 80s-nspired beats. Emotion peaked a spot on Billboard’s digital albums with #11. As for Emotion Side B, a year later, it peaked at #13.
Recently, the Canadian singer announced on her social media her new single, “Party for One,” would be dropping on November 1st.

The internet lost their mind. They shared the presale link for Spotify and the preorder link all day before it was available. Fans got the hashtag #PartyforOne, which had a personal icon of Jepsen and a sword, trending on Twitter.
Jepsen also treated her fans with snippets of the single before its release. On the release day of “Party for One,” she held a pajama party on Instagram Live to celebrate the single.
Party for One takes a huge step in character development from her previous music. Emotion was longing for a person CRJ couldn’t have but ended up with them at the end. Emotion Side B was a break-up, make-up phase that showed a different side of a relationship with tracks like “Roses.”
Party for One is a post-breakup anthem with rhythmic beats. The catchy lyrics show nostalgic emotions towards her ex-lover, but they also show how she regained self-love.
“You don’t want my love
If you don’t care about me
I’ll just dance for myself
Back on my beat (Back on my beat)
Party for one”
Jepsen realizes she doesn’t need a partner to have a party. She can fulfill the excitement and emotion for herself. Jepsen also released the official music video.
The transition of summer flings to cold feet is here. Summer anthems long over lovers again and again with electronic beats or swaying beneath our feet. Seasons change, and it’s all about remembering the summer nights. wishing to go back in time. But CRJ’s “Party for One” takes a distinctive mark from current pop music as the song chooses itself. It takes up a concept on self-love instead of drowning over a lover.
It’s the time for a season of realization and self-empowerment. “Party for One” is the start of change. Jepsen challenges a lover’s action by doing it by herself. By doing it even better.
Take it from CRJ in an email to her fans about “Party for One:”
“To me, ‘Party for One’ is an anthem of what is to celebrate time with yourself, which is a hard thing for people to really enjoy sometimes, and it’s something I’m learning to do more and more.”
With the new year coming, CRJ will be releasing her fifth studio album. As for now, Carly Rae Jepsen revived the pop industry with “Party for One,” making it a party for all.
