‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ is Getting a Sequel and We’re Excited!

January 1, 20194 min read

On December 20th, lead cast members Lana Condor and Noah Centineo revealed that they are definitely returning for the sequel of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before!

Netflix officially confirms a To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before sequel is happening!

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before follows the life of Lara Jean, a teenage girl who has never openly admitted to her past crushes. Instead, she wrote a love letter to all five of them about her feelings. The letters never saw daylight as she hid them in her room until one day, they are mysteriously sent out. Lara Jean then faces the trouble of confronting all her crushes.

The movie ends with Lara Jean confessing her feelings to one of her crushes. Yes, her letters do get mailed, but she never really admitted to liking any of them in person until she and Peter Kavinsky (aka one of her crushes) truly hit it off (in a not so traditional way). Something good came out of those letters after all!

The movie was one of Netflix’s biggest ever original hits. It has 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and recieved a 4.4/5 rating as well. It had such a strong audience reaction that it was obvious a sequel will be made, but now, it’s official!

Here is everything we know so far about the sequel!

The movies are based on books written by Jenny Han, and the second novel in the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy is called P.S. I Still Love You.

In the second book, one of Lara Jean’s five crushes aka John Ambrose comes to town, and her and Peter’s relationship get a bit shaky.

We have actually already seen John Ambrose (Jordan Burtchett) in a mid-credits sequence. He showed up at the Coveys’ door bearing one of those love letters.

It is not yet clear however if Jordan Burtchett will reprise the role or if it will be recast.

The cast has not been confirmed yet, but it’s likely to include the main characters from the first film. Janel Parrish as Lara Jean’s older sister Margot, Anna Cathcart as her younger sister Kitty and Israel Broussard as Margot’s-ex-boyfriend/Lara Jean’s-past-crush Josh.

There is still no news on who is directing the movie, bu the screenplay will be written by Sofia Alvarez. No release date has been confirmed yet, but as soon as we hear about it, we will let you know!

“There’s so many things in the second book that I would love to see in a sequel,” Jenny Han says to IndieWire. “The whole reason why I wrote a second book was for the character of John Ambrose McClaren, who is a fan favorite, and he’s a favorite of mine too. I would love to see that explored, and also there’s a character called Stormy that I love to write. I would love to see that.”

If the movie stays true to the books, we might get a glimpse of new characters like Stormy.

But what we know for sure is that a love triangle is going to happen when John Ambrose arrives, and fans will be over the moon!
