Late month, SZA reported that her voice was permanently injured in a series of tweets, this resulted in a leave of absence from the TDE Championship Tour to prevent further damage. Her last performance was May 29. With this admission, many fans were left to wonder about the fate of her future tour dates. As Firefly Music Festival quickly approached, many fans were conflicted about whether or not she would be making an appearance. In addition to SZA performing, Kendrick Lamar was headling the music festival.
Whispers throughout the festival were of uncertainty, by the time the festival rolled around, SZA still hasn’t cancelled. It left many people anxious and disappointed. They weren’t sure whether she would show up or cancel like her other tour dates. It was even rumoured that Kendrick Lamar would bring out Jay Rock and School Boy Q to make up for SZA’s absence.
Sunday afternoon she tweeted that she would be in fact at Firefly. Fans rejoiced, but the ultimate test would be if her vocals would be able to do a full show. Before her announcement, she thanked all of the people who have been helping her regain her voice over the past couple of weeks.
Thank u to the incredible team of Doctors and vocal technicians that have taken time to see me over the last few weeks in every city. I’m blessed to say my voice is not permanently damaged and i’ve been working daily to get back. Slowly but surely.

SZA hit the Firefly stage to a crowd of thousands eager and waiting for her return. It was only convenient that she attended school at Delaware State University — a short drive from where the festival was held. Perhaps it was a full circle moment for her to be able to play in an area that she once use to attend school in. In between music sets, she spoke about the making of each of the songs and how she felt about the songs. She gave fans like myself an intimate moment in a sea of thousands.

Whether or not SZA will continue performing on the future tour dates with TDE is up in the air as of now, but SZA is on the road to recovery. The reception at the show yesterday has perhaps given her the love and support she needs for a speedy recovery.
