After close to a decade with Chris Evans as the ‘Star-Spangled Man With a Plan,’ he revealed his plans to give up the role after 10 films of patriotic power.
Chris Evans first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America in 2011, where the hero was first seen in Captain America: The First Avenger. With the help of his friend James ‘Bucky’ Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, and his lover Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, Cap goes on to defeat the Red Skull and in an attempt to save his the lives of thousands, he steered his ship into the waters of a frozen tundra, where he stayed frozen for 70 years. In the sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, premiering in 2014, he’s thrown into the everyday life of a modern superhero, and comes across Bucky, his long time friend turned malicious. Captain America also appears in all of the Avengers movies, with multiple other Marvel characters, and his most recent independent film, Captain America: Civil War. For all of these films, Evans has been a pillar of positivity, and has even won multiple awards and nominations, including a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Action Movie Actor.
Last time we left off, the hero was left in despair after the onslaught of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, where tons of characters disintegrated into dust. His story continues in the sequel to Infinity War, where the film just finished production, and Chris Evans, our lovely hero, announced the end of his career as Cap.

It was an emotional day for the entire MCU to say the least. After playing the role for almost a decade, having our original Captain America leave was upsetting for fellow cast members, and fans. Although this is the end of an era, this could be a new beginning for a new superhero to shine.
Fans took to Twitter to share their reactions, and even other Marvel stars showed praise and sadness for him hanging up his shield.
Ok I know I should be concentrating on my song right now but I’m so sad that @ChrisEvans isn’t playing captain America anymore 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

I’m not crying. I’m weeping. There’s a difference.

While this may be an upsetting moment for some, this also could mean new beginnings for both Evans and the MCU. For Evans, this will give him the opportunity and flexibility to explore new roles. Who know’s where we’ll see him next? And for Marvel, they’ll introduce our next new start: Captain Marvel. All in all, while our beloved Capsicle is leaving, he’ll always be with us in our hearts.
