There are more than enough methods to learn about your personality. Whether it be through various Buzzfeed quizzes or something else, it’s always interesting to see what the results say about you. While these evaluations may not be the most scientific or accurate ways of learning about yourself, they sure are fun!
The most popular personality test is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Test (MBTI). This test assigns you four letters that represent different aspects of your personality. The different preferences are introversion vs. extroversion, intuition vs. sensing, thinking vs. feeling and judging vs. perceiving. There’s a good chance that you’ve taken this quiz or at least heard about it before.
The Enneagram, however, is probably something that you’re less familiar with. According to the Enneagram Institute, the Enneagram was formed in 1997 by Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson. The Enneagram is actually a shape that displays the 9 different personality types, each given numbers 1-9 (refer to featured image for a visual).
Below are the 9 basic personality types given by the Enneagram:
(The names of each type number are given according to the Enneagram Institute. These names may change depending on the source used.)
Type 1: The Reformer
Type 2: The Helper
Type 3: The Achiever
Type 4: The Individualist
Type 5: The Investigator
Type 6: The Loyalist
Type 7: The Enthusiast
Type 8: The Challenger
Type 9: The Peacemaker
These personality types can become more complex and specific. No person is only one personality type, and their personality and behavior can change depending on if they’re feeling stressed or secure. Additionally, your personality has something called a wing. The wing is considered the “second side” of the personality, and is one of the two types that are adjacent to your own on the Enneagram. For example, looking at the Enneagram, a 7 can have a wing 6 or wing 8.
To find out your own Enneagram type, you can look for a quiz online or read about the specifics of the different types and decide for yourself what fits you best.
