Percy Jackson is finally being adapted into a TV show. Two mediocre movies (but with an impeccable cast) and years of begging have finally paid off. The extremely popular Percy Jackson & the Olympians book series by Rick Riordan has already been adapted for the big screen in the form of 2010s The Lightning Thief and its 2013 sequel, Sea of Monsters. But members of the books’ passionate fan base have long wished for a more faithful adaptation, and now they’re finally getting another chance.
A Percy Jackson TV show, which will follow each of the five main books per season, is currently in development at Disney Plus. Rick Riordan shared this announcement in a video alongside his wife Becky, which he posted to Twitter.

The first season will follow the first book The Lightning Thief and subsequent seasons will cover the four main sequels.
The story follows Percy Jackson, a teenager with ADHD. After monsters from Greek mythology attack him, Percy learns that he is the half-human son of one of the Olympian gods. He is brought to Camp Half-Blood to learn alongside other demigods. He befriends fellow demigod Annabeth Chase and a satyr named Grover. Soon, it falls to this team of friends to save the world from something even older and scarier than the gods of Mount Olympus. The original Percy Jackson & the Olympians series consisted of five books: The Lightning Thief, Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian. But Percy has since made appearances in Riordan’s follow-up series like Heroes of Olympus and The Trials of Apollo.
As someone who is a massive fan of the series, I was very disappointed with how badly the movie adaptation played out. So I am very excited that we’re finally getting a TV show. However, if there was one thing the movies got right, it was the casting. Logan Lerman was the perfect Percy Jackson. And I can only hope he gets to reprise his role. Because even if the movie sucked, the casting choice was perfect. Lerman expressed his happiness over the TV show on Twitter. As of right now, none of the original cast has any involvement with the series.
Excited to see this! Hope it gets the adaptation the books deserve. Congrats @rickriordan https://t.co/ReE6EjJICV

This series has the potential to blow up like Harry Potter, and I am so very excited to see how this show develops over at Disney Plus. I can only hope this series finds the redemption it deserves after a failed movie adaptation, especially with Rick and his wife Becky Riordan involved in every step of the way. And I cannot wait to see this show come to life.
