Black Panther

Release Date: Feb. 16, 2018

Highly praised for its representation of Africa, Black Panther is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated movies of the year. It follows the return of T’Challa to the isolated and advanced African nation of Wakanda. He will succeed the throne after his father, the previous King of Wakanda’s death.

Alongside Black Panther, this film is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The Avengers and many other superhero allies cross paths in this star-studded film. They all must work together to stop their most powerful villain yet — Thanos — who’s trying to destroy the universe.

With the immense positive reception of the first film, Deadpool is back for another movie. Deadpool 2 is the 12th installment in the X-Men series and the second in the Deadpool series. Although the director of the first film Tim Miller left the project due to creative differences with lead actor, Ryan Reynolds, we’re sure that this movie will be a success.

Release Date: June 15, 2018

I’m pretty sure that there’s nobody as excited for Incredibles 2 than all the ’90s kids. The long-awaited Pixar and Disney collaboration has been in the works for years now. The film is set to take place immediately after the first film, and while trying to maintain a normal life, the family will battle a new sinister enemy alongside the fan-favorite character, Frozone.

Release Date: July 6, 2018

As the newly recruited Ant-Man/Scott Lang balances being a father and superhero, he must work with Hope van Dyne and Hank Pym on another mission. However, this time, he isn’t embarking on this journey alone. This film with introduce The Wasp (Hope van Dyne), yet another superhero with the abilities to work with insects.

Venom

Release Date: Oct. 5, 2018

Technically, Venom isn’t a superhero, but we’re way too excited for this movie not to mention it. Tom Hardy is set to play this beast, and with his role as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, we’re positive he’ll be an amazing super villain. It’s the first film in the Sony Marvel Universe — a universe completely unrelated to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s the first film in a series of Spider-Man character spin-off films. At this point, extremely little is known about the film, but the first look is allegedly coming in the upcoming weeks.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Release Date: Nov. 2, 2018

This movie is the upcoming sequel to 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. The plot is set in 1992, and after the events of Apocalypse, the X-Men are a public sensation. A prideful Professor X pushes the team toward doing more as heroes; in one mission they are taken to outer space. An accident overpowers Jean Grey, and as she deals with losing control, an alien shapeshifter attempts using Jean for her own intentions, under the assumption that she is the “Dark Phoenix.”

Aquaman

Release Date: Dec. 21, 2018

With Aquaman being the only DC feature film released in 2018, it’s the only one on our list. Although the DC Extended Universe has not been praised for its story lines, the characters have. This film takes place after the events of Justice League and delves into Arthur Curry/Aquaman’s life. The half-Atlantean, half-human must find a solution to avoid conflict between the humans, who are polluting the waters, and the Atlantans, who are ready to invade the surface.

Clearly there are many amazing films set to come out this year — fingers crossed that they are all as good as they sound!
