The Anti-Love Song: Shordie Shordie’s ‘Betchua’ Has Celebrities Wanting More

March 21, 20193 min read

Shordie Shordie is undoubtedly the next success story coming out of Baltimore.

You may have heard the Baltimore natives undeniable uniqueness in his songs with rap trio, Peso Da Mafia but that’s simply a taste compared to what you will hear on his debut solo project, Captain Hook.

Shordie’s 9 track mixtape is the perfect balance between lyricism, melodies and harmonies. His unconventional vocals will naturally catch your attention, his raw talent will lure you in and his ability to create a hook with ease will keep you. Hence the name, “Captain Hook”.

BUT…his hit record “Betchua” is the track that you will not be able to get out of your head (no matter how hard you try). Baltimore’s hook machine created captivating melodies paired with a contagiously bouncy hook that makes for an undeniable anthem and a dance that provides a Bay-area vibe.

When asked about his inspiration behind creating this record at Fader , his response was

“I felt like I wanted people to listen to this song and feel themselves…feel like they could express themselves and be honest. If you a dog, be a dog. Be you. I think people like this record because it’s ‘disrespectful’ but at the end of the day it’s the truth.”

The video has only been out for 2.5 months and has caught the attention of big named celebrities such as DJ Carnage, Quavo, Slim Jimmi, 03 Greedo, DJ Mustard, Jay Critch, OT Genasis, Todd Gurley of the Los Angeles Rams, Super Bowl Champion Torrey Smith…the list goes on. (I can’t keep up). With features on highly favored platforms like  Say Cheese Digital his music is spreading like rapid fire.

Any record that you can bump in your car just as much as it does at the club is a banger to me.

Just a few weeks ago the viral video hit 1 Million views and has now surpassed 3.5 Million views. The video is averaging around 100K views a day, so it won’t be long before you hear this record everywhere.

His interview with Adam at the acclaimed “No Jumper” premiered yesterday where he speaks on what comes with being a viral sensation and what it means to be a rising artist out of the (underrated) city of Baltimore.

Shordie’s scratchy harmonies and eccentric sound is like nothing the city of Baltimore has ever seen. His uniquely amazing vocals and level of versatility is why he is the artist that the industry is yearning for.

Take a look at the “Betchua” video above, and find your new favorite song on Shordie’s Captain Hook tape here.
