The Killers are one of the most popular rock bands in contemporary music. Their debut album Hot Fuss, has sold well over 7 million copies worldwide and resulted in four hit singles, two with multi-platinum status. These include ‘Somebody Told Me’ and the iconic ‘Mr. Brightside; the latter being their biggest hit to date.
Since 2004, ‘Mr. Brightside’ has remained non-consecutivly in the top 100 on the UK Official Charts. Despite never reaching the top spot, it peaked at the #10 spot and has garnered a 3x Platinum certification for selling over 1.8 million units. It’s made multiple honorary music lists. Some of these include NME’s “500 Greatest Songs Of All Time List” at #116 and “Most Streamed Songs Released Before 2010” at #1. The Official Charts Company also inducted the song into the Pop Gem Hall Of Fame.
Reasoning for the songs longevity is due to increasing streaming numbers and downloads every week. It’s regularly put on popular Spotify playlists and even on downloads alone, it continues to be downloaded an average of 696 times a week.
Currently the song is sitting in the top 200 worldwide on Spotify and in the top 100 in countries such as the United Kingdom, the U.S, Australia, Brazil, etc. The bands popularity in the U.K. is extraordinary for an American act, and their five consecutive #1 albums prove that.
While their latest released album, Wonderful Wonderful, was released five years after their last album (2012), it succesfully debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart becoming their first #1 album on the chart. The Killers also became the first international act in the U.K. to debut their first five albums at #1.
On YouTube, the songs music video has over 200 million views and over 1.1 million likes.
The band are currently on their ‘Wonderful Wonderful World Tour’, with a total of 128 dates through Europe, North America, Latin America, and Oceania. The tour will conclude on July 29th, 2018.
