#2 “Youngblood” – 5 Seconds of Summer

2018 was definitely the Australian pop rock band’s year. With the release of their third album, 5 Seconds of Summer surely made a dent in the music world with their undeniably catchy songs. “Youngblood,” which has landed itself a spot on the Billboard Charts, manages to show off each of the members talent — from Hemmings’ voice, Irwin’s drumming, Hood’s rocking bass and Clifford’s skills on the guitar. “Youngblood” has easily become one of the many anthems of 2018.

#3 “when the party’s over” – Billie Eilish

2018 was without a doubt a great year for Billie Eillish. With several successful songs released this year, “when the party’s over,” is only just one of them. #4 “1950” – King Princess 

Mikaela Straus, famously known as King Princess, scored with her debut song “1950.” The song, which resonated with people from all over the world, tells the story of unrequited love in specifically LGBTQ+ relationships. With a steady beat paired with Straus’s airy vocals, “1950” is definitely a win-win in terms of a successful, innovative song.

#5 “Head Above Water” – Avril Lavigne

The 2000s Pop Princess returned in early fall this year with an innovative and unprecedented song. “Head Above Water” presents Lavigne’s fight with Lyme disease. The song, which features several beautiful instruments including the piano, the violin, and the drums, has managed to resonate with several fans — old and new — with its alluring and spiritual lyrics.

#9 “Shallow” – Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper

The made-for-movie song “Shallow” sung by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper features the pair’s both beautiful and talented voices in this duet. With heartfelt lyrics and an unembellished guitar, the song has found itself topping the charts again and again. 

#10  “Happier” – Marshmello & Bastille

The pop song “Happier” by Marshmello & Bastille which was released in the fall of 2018, features an indisputably foot-tapping beat for quite the sad song. While the lyrics are rather gloomy themselves, the rhythm of the song itself is hard not to want to dance to.
