Every year, new artists and bands emerge from every corner of the world and we are gifted with amazing songs that include catchy beats and influential, groundbreaking lyrics. 

From meaningful songs that feature lyrics powerful enough to move listeners to songs with undeniably catchy beats that were impossible to forget, 2018 was without a doubt a significant year for all things innovative and unforgettable in the music industry.  

Though there were definitely a lot of great songs released this year that managed to climb the charts and leave music lovers everywhere dancing and singing along, here are the top 10 most unforgettable pop songs of 2018.

#1 “Love It If We Made It”  – The 1975

The 1975’s “Love It If We Made It” was released mid 2018, becoming a summer anthem of sorts. The well-known alternative rock band declares the frightening reality of our world today, touching on all sorts of subjects from politics, race, and police brutality. This song is accompanied by Healy’s passionate voice, a dreamy guitar and a never ending beat that makes it hard not to nod your head along to.

#2 “Youngblood” – 5 Seconds of Summer

2018 was definitely the Australian pop rock band’s year. With the release of their third album, 5 Seconds of Summer surely made a dent in the music world with their undeniably catchy songs. “Youngblood,” which has landed itself a spot on the Billboard Charts, manages to show off each of the members talent — from Hemmings’ voice, Irwin’s drumming, Hood’s rocking bass and Clifford’s skills on the guitar. “Youngblood” has easily become one of the many anthems of 2018.

#3 “when the party’s over” – Billie Eilish

2018 was without a doubt a great year for Billie Eillish. With several successful songs released this year, “when the party’s over,” is only just one of them. Known for her extremely strong vocals, Ellish shows off a softer and prettier side to her voice with a song about what it means to let someone go. The song reached #52 on the Billboard Charts.

#4 “1950” – King Princess 

Mikaela Straus, famously known as King Princess, scored with her debut song “1950.” The song, which resonated with people from all over the world, tells the story of unrequited love in specifically LGBTQ+ relationships. With a steady beat paired with Straus’s airy vocals, “1950” is definitely a win-win in terms of a successful, innovative song.

#5 “Head Above Water” – Avril Lavigne

The 2000s Pop Princess returned in early fall this year with an innovative and unprecedented song. “Head Above Water” presents Lavigne’s fight with Lyme disease. The song, which features several beautiful instruments including the piano, the violin, and the drums, has managed to resonate with several fans — old and new — with its alluring and spiritual lyrics.

#6 “Mariner’s Apartment Complex” – Lana Del Rey

The single for the singer’s upcoming 2019 album left countless fans speechless. With her usual way of captivating listeners, Del Rey managed to lure fans into a beautiful wonderland of dreamy lyrics and an easy beat that felt like endless summer days spent on the beach.

#7 “Without Me” – Halsey

Following her temporary split from rapper G-Eazy, Ashley Frangipane, also known as Halsey, released “Without Me”, a haunting song that shows of Halsey’s strong vocals as well as showcases her struggle in the relationship by use of distinguished lyrics, helping fans everywhere know that they are not alone.

#8 “Hunger” – Florence + The Machine

Florence + The Machine’s “Hunger”  has got it all — from a hard to forget rhythm to poetic-like lyrics, the song has easily become a fan favorite. With her dreamy voice, Florence Welch sings about her search for an understanding of love, the lyrics ultimately touching people all over the world.

#9 “Shallow” – Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper

The made-for-movie song “Shallow” sung by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper features the pair’s both beautiful and talented voices in this duet. With heartfelt lyrics and an unembellished guitar, the song has found itself topping the charts again and again.

#10  “Happier” – Marshmello & Bastille

The pop song “Happier” by Marshmello & Bastille which was released in the fall of 2018, features an indisputably foot-tapping beat for quite the sad song. While the lyrics are rather gloomy themselves, the rhythm of the song itself is hard not to want to dance to.

2018 was quite the year for music. Let’s see what 2019 will bring!
