Getting through heartbreak is tough. After the healing time has been taken, it’s time to embrace the fact that you’re single, not committed, and can live your life. Being alone doesn’t have to hold a negative connotation and this is something many of us are still trying really hard to learn. Here are 10 songs that remind you that the single life can mean FUN. Remember ladies, cuffing season isn’t until the next season anyway.
1. Love Galore – SZA ft. Travis Scott
SZA’s debut album CTRL speaks the truth. Tackling subjects like heartbreak, being played, and being absolutely head over heels in love, she makes women feel empowered and understood. A standout track off the project, “Love Galore” is filled with feelings of regret and ultimately, the realization that it’s completely fine to be single. It doesn’t always have to be that deep.
2. Single – Natasha Bedingfield
The title says it all. Natasha Bedingfield’s “Single” is that one track you want to bump on your way to a party with your friends. With a beat that makes you feel yourself, this one makes it clear you don’t need someone else to validate you.
3. Knew Better/Forever Boy – Ariana Grande
“You could turn me on, boy but that’s about it.” Ariana Grande’s “Knew Better/Forever Boy” are two tracks combined into one beautiful piece about someone who didn’t invest as much as they could’ve into a relationship. It reassures you that someone doesn’t define your self worth.
4. Wild Thoughts – DJ Khaled ft. Rihanna & Bryson Tiller
I had to slap DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts” on here because it embraces summer flings and makes you feel yourself. Confidence is always key, once you love yourself and embrace who you are, you feel invincible.
5. Froot – Marina and the Diamonds
Marina and the Diamonds’ “Froot” makes you want to find summer romance with no strings attached. There’s something about Marina’s voice that makes you feel like the queen you are.
“Baby it’s my turn to flex on you.” Bryson’s “Run Me Dry” is the modern day break-up song without the sadness. It celebrates being single and reminds us how good it feels to not be stressed out over someone.
7. Rollin’ – Calvin Harris ft. Khalid & Future
Khalid’s verse in Calvin Harris’ “Rollin” hits you right in the feels — but in a good way. It makes you want to sing while cruising down the freeway but also reminds you that everybody experiences heartbreak and it doesn’t last.
Paramore came back with a bang this year. The band dropped “Hard Times” that holds a nostalgic 80’s rock vibe. The first track off the project After Laughter made this list because it reminds us that bad times don’t last. A self-encouraging bop that everyone needs to hear.
Aside from the fact that this track was featured in the favorite 90’s flick Clueless, this one is the DEFINITION of being a single girl, and being totally okay with it! It teaches us that being a single woman isn’t necesarilly a bad thing. The track was released in 1995 and is still relevant 21 years later.
10. Mess Around – Cage the Elephant
Cage the Elephant’s instrumentals make you want to scream your lungs out and look like a total headcase. “Mess Around” is a track about a woman who has the ability to drive you fucking nuts- absolutely beautiful. It’s empowering in the weirdest way, for me at least.
