It’s impossible to not have heard Dua Lipa’s hit song “New Rules.” The music video has been praised for its theme of female-empowerment. Despite being released only a few months ago, it has nearly 800 million views on YouTube and over 500 million Spotify streams.
Although “New Rules” is by far her most successful single, it is not the 22-year-old English singer’s first. Lipa’s previous singles include “New Love,” “Be The One,” “Last Dance,”Hotter Than Hell” and “Blow Your Mind (Muah).” Even though she released her first single in 2015, 2017 has undoubtedly been her most successful year.
In January, Lipa teamed up with DJ Martin Garrix for the single “Scared To Be Lonely.” An acoustic version of the song was later released in April. She also released “Lost In Your Light” — featuring American singer, Miguel — at the end of April.
Lipa skyrocketed to the top of the charts with the release of her single “New Rules” in July 2017. The single is the first No. 1 by a female solo artist since Adele’s “Hello” in 2015. Lipa also became the top most streamed female UK artist on Spotify and the fourth most streamed UK artist worldwide. “New Rules” is certified platinum in the UK and gold in the USA.
Her anticipated self-titled album, Dua Lipa, was released on June 2, 2017. The album was in production since 2015. The album is composed of 12 tracks, and the deluxe version contains 17. As of December 2017, her album reached 1.2 million sales worldwide. She recently released her Live Acoustic EP, containing acoustic versions of her music.
In addition to these certifications, Lipa has received countless awards and nominations this year. She won the NME Award for Best New Artist, MTV European Music Award for Best New Act and Glamour Award for NEXT Breakthrough.
This year, Lipa headlined the “US and Europe Tour” and “The Self-Titled Tour,” which will end in 2018. She also opened for Bruno Mars on the “24K Magic World Tour” and for Coldplay on the “A Head Full of Dreams Tour.”
2018 is set to be another busy year for Lipa. It was announced via the Brits’ Twitter account that she will be performing. She is also promoting her seventh single, “IDGAF,” from her album in the new year.
Despite the sudden rush of success, Lipa is keen on working harder and building on her current success. She told Billboard,
“I’m just gonna keep them coming. That’s what I want. I just want to keep going. I just either want to be on tour or be releasing music.”
