Growing (or maintaining) natural hair is different for everyone, some might have bra strap length hair in 4 months while it might take years to get to that length. It’s important for you to understand that your hair IS GROWING!!!
Here are some useful tips that helped me with my hair growth:
1. Shampoo and Condition Your Hair as Often as You Need
Having a dirty and dry scalp can slow down the process of your hair growing. Washing your hair as soon as you feel like it’s dirty will keep your scalp clean will get ride of any product build up, dead skin and debris in your hair. Make sure that you aren’t using a shampoo that has load of chemicals in your hair. Using a Sulfate-free shampoo keeps your hair moisturized and your scalp from feeling dry.
2. Trim the Ends of Your Hair!
I know this post is about hair GROWTH but trust me when I say trimming your hair (getting rid of split ends) and paying close attention to your ends will give the allusion of thicker healthier hair. Also DON’T FORGET to moisturize your ends as well as the rest of your hair.
3. Protect Your Hair
Doing protective styles on your hair regularly can reduce shedding and make your hair look maintained without any hard work. Protective styles, shouldn’t be too tight, they should protect your ends, prevent excessive pulling and it requires little to no heat. Some styles to do are: twists, braids, cornrows, twist/braid outs, flat twists, wigs, weaves and extensions. Before bed, wear a silk or cotton scarf (or sleep on a silk pillow case) to prevent breakage over night.
4. Massage Your Scalp
This step is probably my favourite because it’s easy and fast. All you need to do is apply any type of oil onto your hands and gently massage your scalp for 3-5 minutes. Or for extra help use a scalp massager. Doing this step is very relaxing and it helps your blood circulate in your scalp with promotes hair growth.
5. Your Diet Matters!
Eating unhealthy foods all the time isn’t good for your body or your hair. Instead eat healthy foods and drink plenty of water then your hair will grow and you will feel better. Think of your hair as a plant, if you give that plant plenty of vitamins and water then it will grow. Giving your hair (and body) vitamins and water your hair will let it grow at the rate you want it to.
Also…. Have fun with your hair, after it’s ALL yours.
