Bad News, Fall Out Boy Fans

August 4, 20172 min read

Don’t expect M A  N   I    A, Fall Out Boy’s sixth studio album, to be stocked up at your local Target or BestBuy on September 15. Patrick Stump, frontman of the pop punk group, publicized a Twitter statement announcing its postponed release date (January 19) and the reason behind it.

“The album just really isn’t ready, and it felt very rushed. I’m never going to put a record out I genuinely don’t believe is at least as strong or valid as the one that came before it and in order to do that we need a little bit more time to properly and carefully record solid performances,” Patrick admitted.

Fall Out Boy’s premiere single “Young and Menace” was far from what fans like myself had anticipated. The heavily infused EDM rhythm strayed away from their commercialized hits like “Centuries” and “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)“. Its experimental beat drowned out Patrick’s soulful voice that he’s strikingly known for. His voice did not correspond with the tempo. There was no harmony. It felt like I was listening to a blob of fruitless noise.

Despite this turbulent beginning, the band bounced back with “Champion“, demonstrating us they have not forgotten their irresistible signature guitar riffs and exhilarating drumbeats.

The band will kick off their fall M A  N   I    A tour as intended on September 16 but without new material. We have to hold on to our seats just a bit longer.
