Taylor Swift has returned to the radio and officially claimed the snake with her scathing new single ‘Look What You Made Me Do’. The track is publically interpreted as being a very angry stab at Kanye West and is the first single off of the comeback album ‘Redemption’ coming November 10th.
And people are not feeling this song.

Quickly after the song’s release, Swift dropped a teaser for the music video that is set to premiere at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), which is now being called her very own “white feminist version of Beyoncé’s Lemonade.”

Judging the single alone, it is no secret that it is completely different from anything the country-girl gone pop star has ever done in her discography. The chorus is more of a fast ominous chant than a melody to sing along to, the lyrics are vengeful, and there is an odd voiceover in the bridge of Swift through a phone saying:
I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh! ‘Cause she’s dead!”
It’s understandable that Taylor Swift would be fed up, but with this weirdly different song, she didn’t do a great job of having an epic musical comeback.
Or did she?
The phrase “look what you made me do” (along with its variations in the chorus) is repeated 36 times. But what did she do, exactly? It is implied that what she did was releasing the angry diss track, but what if it had a whole different meaning than just being a call out for Kanye West?
The Theory:
Taylor Swift knows exactly the kind of power she holds in the music industry and how quickly the world would propel her new song to the top of the charts. She is also no stranger to the radio overplaying her many hits, for weeks and often months on end. We all remember when Blank Space was on the Billboard Hot 100 for 36 weeks, and how every pop station in your area was blasting ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’.
When Taylor Swift says “look what you made me do,” she is referring to how the radio will overplay this annoying, repetitive song and it will make us more agitated than ever.

She has purposely converted her anger and irritation with the media portraying her as a snake, clique-leader, heartbreaker, and more and is taking out her frustration on the people who feed the flames. And to the Swifties, the song is a gift.
‘Look What You Made Me Do’ being underwhelming and snappy with a maddening chorus is all a part of her plan.
But if this is true, not many people have caught on. Yet.
Is the “New Taylor” even enough to propel Swift to greater fame? Whether you like her or not, the mystery of it all keeps many wondering, staying tuned for her latest antics, and inevitably making her more popular in the process.
