We’re all aware of Peter Parker. In fact, he might be Marvel’s most iconic character. But there are actually many variants of the webslinger, with intricate backstories and large, lovable personalities. Here are just 5 of my favourites (not including Parker himself):
5. Black Widow (Natasha Romanova/Romanoff)
Black Widow is a character that you’ll be familiar with of you’ve seen the Avengers movies, as well as others that she makes cameos in, like Iron Man 2 and Captain America: Civil War. But the MCU has barely scraped the surface with Nat; she has an extremely interesting backstory that interlinks with other fan favourites like Clint Barton (Hawkeye) and The Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes. She gets her name from the infamous Black Widow spider, and although is not really related to Peter Parker and his story, still deserves a spot on this list.
4. Cindy Moon (Silk)
Cindy Moon was bitten by the same spider as Peter Parker, but doesn’t get half the recognition. She’s funny, has a great backstory and is a well crafted three dimensional character.
3. Spider Woman (Jessica Drew)
Jessica Drew is an amazing character. She’s had her own animated series, as well as multiple comic runs and a role in the avengers. Although the Spider Woman title has been passed on to multiple other characters, Jessica held the original alias and did a fantastic job doing so!
2. Spider Man (Miles Morales)
Miles Morales was just 13 years old when he became Spider-Man, after the Peter Parker of his work was presumed to be dead. A lot of people (myself included) wanted him to be the MCU’s spidey, but unfortunately Marvel Studios decided to recast Peter Parker for the third time in roughly 15 years. Although Tom Holland is a great Parker, Miles Morales is an amazing character in his own right and would’ve been great to see on the silver screen. Miles’ backstory is similar to Peter’s, and he’s equally as loveable as the original webslinger.
1. Spider Gwen (Gwen Stacy)
Gwen Stacy is such a versatile character, and I especially love seeing her take on the role of the Spider Woman of Earth-65. Everything from her costume to her personality is perfect, and seeing her, you know, not dead, is a bonus.
