“Love Lies” is officially another bop from American singer and songwriter Khalid and Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei. The duo’s R&B-flavored single broke through the Top 40 charts in numerous countries worldwide.
On the Billboard Hot 100, it opened with 22,000 copies sold, debuting at #43. While shy of the Top 40, it became the highest first-week position for a single by a girl group member flying solo. Diana Ross initially held this record when she released her first solo effort, “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand),” which debuted at #49. For Khalid, the single became his ninth Hot 100 entry.
The duet also happens to be the second single for the motion picture soundtrack Love, Simon. It’s expected that the film’s upcoming worldwide release will prompt a proper resurgence for the song. The soundtrack will be released on March 16th, 2018: the same day as the nationwide release of the film.
Regarding the song and her first steps as a solo artist, Normani stated,
A music video for “Love Lies” was released February 16 and has so far received over 11 million views on YouTube.
Overall, “Love Lies” has received extremely positive reviews from music publications like Billboard and Idolator. Billboard called the song “romantically curious,” while complimenting Normani’s vocals and Idolator confers that the single is a strong R&B/pop direction endeavor.
Streaming continues to be the songs strongest point, currently in the Top 40 in 30 countries on Spotify.
The Love, Simon soundtrack is now available for pre-order on iTunes which includes “Love Lies” and various other artists.
