Former One Direction singer Harry Styles debuted two new songs at his Tuesday concert in Paris, “Anna” and “Medicine,” sparking mass discussion on social media of whether or not one of the songs expressed his identity as bisexual.
In “Medicine,” Styles notably sings the lyrics, “The boys and the girls are in, I’ll mess around with them, and I’m OK with it.”

Fans instantly erupted into assumptions and excitement, as Styles’ sexuality has been a topic that has prevailed in the past. Though he has had public relationships in the past, with well-known women, including Taylor Swift and Kendall Jenner, a mass portion of his fans believe in his speculated relationships with other men, such as radio personality Nick Grimshaw and Louis Tomlinson, his former bandmate.
This isn’t the first time Styles has addressed the idea of sexuality and his personal identity. In an interview with The Sun last year, he admitted that he did not desire to put a label on his sexuality, saying, “I’ve never felt the need to really. No, I don’t feel like it’s something I’ve ever felt like I have to explain about myself.”
Despite his choice to remain undefined, fans have utilized this opportunity to immediately label him as bisexual. This is problematic for an obvious reason: he has chosen not to define his sexuality, most likely for a reason personal to himself.

Of course, it is perfectly fine to deem it a bisexual anthem if it is a song that makes you feel comfortable about your bisexuality, though it shouldn’t be directly applied to Harry Styles, for the assumption is one that he has not confirmed nor advocated for.
Still, we are super thrilled that Harry appears to be comfortable with himself and happy in his career. Being comfortable with oneself in any way is always a good thing!
