Norweigan Pop Princess Julie Bergan Teams Up With SEEB on Hit “Kiss Somebody”

February 22, 20203 min read

Julie Bergan is a platinum-going pop star who holds the record as the the most streamed female artist in her country of Norway. With almost half a billion streams on Spotify, she has guest performed for major artists like Dua Lipa and  Justin Bieber. Her latest collaboration is with global hit-makers SEEB, who claim over 3.3 billion streams on their hits with mega stars like Coldplay and Bastille.

“Kiss Somebody” begins quickly, with Julie singing, “Sometimes I cry, we all know why It’s like there’s no good in goodbye/So we push it away/People will try, say “don’t worry, it’s fine/Just go give it some time/Don’t you know what it takes?’” A snapping beat and a building electronic track backs her up.

The song continues, “So get out of bed/Forget everything that you had/Go on and find someone else/Sometimes you just gotta kiss somebody, yeah/Sometimes it’s all in your head/Sometimes it’s hard to forget/Sometimes you just gotta kiss somebody.”  The electronic background crescendos behind her, building suspense. The chorus comes crashing in, “Make out with her/Make out, make out with him/Make out, make out/Just kiss somebody, kiss somebody, kiss somebody/Make out with her/Make out, make out with him Make out, make out/Just kiss somebody, kiss somebody, kiss somebody.”

The fun chorus and pre-chorus repeat again, declaring there is no time for serious relationships. It’s time to be free and flirtatious – regardless of gender, “Make out with her/Make out, make out with him/Make out,” before the chorus repeats once more, as the conclusion to the song, “Make out with her/Make out, make out with him/Make out, make out/Just kiss somebody/(Somebody), kiss somebody, kiss somebody/Make out with her (Kiss somebody)/Make out, make out with him (Kiss somebody)/Make out, make out/Just kiss somebody, kiss somebody, kiss somebody.”

Julie explained that the song came about when she was in the studio with her collaborators Skinny Days,  who was going through a break-up. Once the phrase, “I don’t want a new boyfriend, I just want to kiss somebody,” was said, the song was born, with SEEB eventually joining the project. “Kiss Somebody” is a redemption-fueled dance anthem, that sounds as though it should be playing when someone is rising up after being kept down. Julie shared, “‘Kiss Somebody’ is a positive message with a positive outlook on the future. Keep moving on, don’t take life too seriously and kiss whoever you want: kiss a guy, kiss a girl, just kiss somebody!”
