Hey Upper East Siders, A “Gossip Girl” Reboot Is Happening

July 17, 20192 min read

Spotted on the steps of the Met: a Gossip Girl reboot on the horizon.

It’s official! HBO Max, the new streaming platform from WarnerMedia, will be creating a Gossip Girl reboot. The 10-episode series will reportedly follow a new set of kids from Manhattan’s elite. The series will take place eight years after the original Gossip Girl site shut down. The new series will address the changes that have occurred in social media since the original series finale.

Original series creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will have a hand in its production as executive producers. Joshua Safran (Quantico, Smash) will be the head writer and an executive producer.

As of right now, there is no information on who will be cast in the reboot. There is also no news on whether or not the original Gossip Girl characters will appear on the show. Blake Lively, Penn Badgely, Chance Crawford, Leighton Meester, and Ed Westwick were among the star-studded cast that the original series boasted.

Fans of the original series, which aired from 2007 to 2012, have divided opinions about the new show. Some are excited to experience the catty world of Gossip Girl once again. But some feel as if it was the original cast that made the show so magical.

Below are some Tweets that showcase fans’ thoughts about the news.

There have been rumors circulating about a Gossip Girl reboot since early 2019, but n0thing has been confirmed until now. Back in late January, CW President Mark Pedowitz had told reporters that there was a “discussion happening” about a potential reboot, but had followed up by saying that he “didn’t know if we’re there yet”. Looks like we’re there now!

What do you think about the news? Is it better for Gossip Girl to stay in the past, or is it time for a new set of characters and drama?
