It wasn’t much of a surprise, given the success of the first two seasons, but we are still hyped for another nine-hour binge sesh. The Duffer brothers’ breakout series is set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, where the search for a missing boy reveals a girl with strange powers who escaped from an even stranger lab that holds the gate to a parallel dimension, known as “The Upside Down.”
Netflix did not give any specific dates as to when the series will be available for streaming, but new episodes are not really expected until the later half of 2018, because of a time jump that needs to occur between the seasons.
“Even if we wanted to hop into the action faster, we couldn’t,” Matt Duffer told The Hollywood Reporter. “Our kids are aging. We can only write and produce the show so fast. They’re going to be almost a year older by the time we start shooting season three. It provides certain challenges. You can’t start right after season two ended. It forces you to do a time jump. But what I like is that it makes you evolve the show. It forces the show to evolve and change, because the kids are changing.”
Matt Duffer cites Harry Potter as an example:
“Watching those kids and actors grow up in front of the camera was, to me, very powerful. I mean, I wasn’t a kid when I experienced that, and I can only imagine if you were a kid and you were their age, it would have been even more powerful. That’s what I’m excited about.”
Whatever the details may be, people are voicing their excitement for the new series, even coming up with some of their own fan theories.
