Lorde Is Considering Cancelling Her Show in Israel

December 23, 20172 min read

Since the singer Lorde has announced she will be playing a gig in Tel Aviv next June she has received cries from fans who are telling her to cancel the show in support of Palestinians. The show has gone on as normal until recently when two fans penned an open letter to Lorde, expressing their feelings about her playing a show in Israel.

In reply to the open letter, Lorde replied on twitter writing: ”Noted! Been speaking w many people about this and considering all options. Thank u for educating me i am learning all the time too”.

The tweet leaves the certainty of the concert up in the air as it seems she is still carefully thinking about how to handle the situation.

The open letter was written by two New Zealanders, Justine Sachs and Nadia Abu-Shana, and starts off with the pair saying “We’re two young women, one Jewish, one Palestinian… we feel strongly about this”. They go on to describe their feelings why Lorde should join the artistic boycott on Israel, and explain the conflict that is currently happening in Palestine whilst it is under Israel’s control and why the singer should make a clear point of supporting Palestine by cancelling her show.

“We can play an important role in challenging injustice today. We urge you to act in the spirit of progressive New Zealanders who came before you and continue their legacy. In 2017, Lorde, reignite the spirit of 1981 and show the world that New Zealanders are the progressive forward-thinking people we say we are.”

Currently fans are awaiting a valid response from Lorde as to the destiny of this concert but many hope that she will take a stand against the conflict and cancel her show.
