Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Lana del Rey are certainly no strangers to the music industry.
With each of the powerhouses constantly releasing hit after hit, it was no surprise that the three teamed up to create yet another smashing song, their new single “Don’t Call Me Angel.”
The single, created for the sole purpose of the continuation of Charlie’s Angels (starring Ella Balinska, Kristen Stewart and Naomi Scott), released September 13 alongside the music video for the song.
The song starts immediately with the distinguished chorus, the same snippet fans have been hearing for a while in the movie’s trailer. In the music video, Ariana Grande is portrayed dressed in a glittery dress accompanied with white angel wings singing, “don’t call me angel, you ain’t got me right…,” ultimately declaring this the mantra for the rest of the year for women everywhere.

The song hands itself over to powerhouse vocalist Miley Cyrus who delivers the first verse singing, “don’t call me angel when I’m a mess, don’t call me angel when I get undressed…,” while simultaneously boxing and straddling a man in the music video. Geared up for a match, Cyrus portrays a woman who has had enough but certainly someone who is ready to continue fighting back.

After the delivery of the chorus, Grande returns with verse number two signing, “don’t you know that I bite when the sun set? So don’t you try come around me,” while posing on a balcony where helicopters hover.
The bridge is provided by Lana Del Rey whose sultry voice perfectly completes this bewitching song. Del Rey, who spent the majority of the music video “training for combat” over Grande and Cyrus’s vocals, beautifully croons, “I appreciate the way you watch me, I can’t lie…I fell from Heaven, now I’m living like a devil…,” while stunning in a beautiful dress.

By the end of the music video, after the delivery of the chorus a fourth time, the three singers have managed to successfully beat the bad guys and get their message across.They then proceed to lavish in what appears to be a feast.
“Don’t Call Me Angel” is an anthem for women everywhere, an insanely catchy song that dances along the edge of the annoyance women often feel at being referred to by pet names. Women, who are much more than the endearments given to them by men (anything that falls under the category of being even remotely demeaning), whether it be “sweetheart,” “babe,” or “angel,” deserve to be acknowledged for the full extent of their significance whether that be in their career, their successes, or just their strength in general.
And, hey, even if you don’t care to read too much into the lyrics of the song, you have to admit it’s a damn good song regardless. One that you will without a doubt find yourself humming during the day.
