Disney Announces Live Action ‘Kim Possible’ Movie And We Are Thrilled

February 8, 20183 min read

The infamous teenage spy, Kim Possible, has been a beloved Disney character since the release of the television series back in 2002.

As one of Disney’s first animated television series, ‘Kim Possible’ helped establish Disney’s television success and inspired countless young girls along the way.

‘Kim Possible’ was inspired by the scarcity of female leads in television programs and explored various themes such as friendship, girl-power, and feminism. To this day, it is regarded as one of Disney’s greatest and most successful television shows in history due to its critical acclaim.

Not only did the show defy initially low expectations, but it eventually went on to be nominated for 8 Emmy Awards, winning one for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing – Live Action and Animation, in 2005.

Disney recently revealed via Twitter that there is now a live-action Kim Possible Disney Channel Original Movie in development.

Countless Disney fans that grew up watching the series are ecstatic with the news! Many took to Twitter to share who they want (and don’t want) to see play the iconic red-head. Some suggestions include Riverdale‘s Madelaine Petsch and Game of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner.

Personally, I believe that Katherine McNamara from Shadowhunters would be a great fit to play Kim. Disney should take advantage of this opportunity and cast a woman of color as the titular character. Elizabeth Gillies and Megan Fox would both accurately fit the role of Shego.

Casting for the show is reportedly underway and the original series creators, Mark McCorkle and Robert Schooley, are writing the script alongside Josh Cagan, who wrote the screenplay for The DUFF.

Adam Bonnet, the Executive Vice President for Original Programming for Disney Channel said, “Although Kim Possible ‘can do anything,’ kids and tweens found that this animated redhead was just like them. As we embark on the fun challenge of making Kim and Ron fully dimensional, I’m thrilled to be working again with Mark and Bob and to welcome the addition of a dynamic creative team – Josh, Zanne, Adam and Zach – into a world where anything is indeed possible.”

Although very few details are known about the movie, our fingers are crossed that our favorite villains, Dr. Drakken and Shego, make an appearance!
