Drag Queen Violet Chachki Physically Removed from Gay Sex Club Le Dépôt For Being Feminine

October 3, 20172 min read

Over the weekend, news arose about the forced removal of burlesque performer and RuPaul’s Drag Race season 7 winner Violet Chachki from Parisian gay sex club Le Dépôt. According to Chachki, she was physically removed from the club for being “too feminine.” “I was just physically dragged out of le depot in Paris for not being masc presenting enough,” she wrote on Twitter in the wee hours of the morning. “I’m shocked and disgusted. Fuck the French.”

Chachki spoke to Hornet saying, “It was a fashion week party. At club that has dark rooms downstairs for sex. I was there seeing 3 friends that were performing/dj. I wasn’t in drag but I had makeup on. I met someone there who also had makeup on but was obviously male bodied but very feminine. We tried to go downstairs to the sexy part when like 4 guys picked us up and dragged us out of the club.”

Violet live streamed the incident and in the video, she is very obviously angry as well as yelling at the club staff, demanding for her jacket to be returned. You can view the video here.

This event caused an outrage in particular because Chachki is one of the most prominent queens in the industry. Many of her fans flooded the Le Dépôt Facebook leaving scathing commentary. Masculinity and femininity, for many years, has been a heavily topics amongst the gay community, even Violet herself has previously discussed the recurring issues within the community surround misogyny and toxic masculinity. Despite the Paris Fashion Week party being considered a “queer-friendly” and inclusive place, Violet was thrown out, proving the exact opposite of what is preached.
