New Music Releases You Should Add to Your Playlists Right Now

October 11, 20196 min read

One of my favourite things about Fridays isn’t that it marks the end of the week and the start of the weekend, or even new releases to Netflix, but it is the sheer excitement I feel when Spotify updates my New Music Fridays with all the latest releases of the week.

Waking up early to check out the additions or even staying up to 12AM so I can listen to anticipated tracks the second they come out has become a weekly ritual for me, it is something that I look forward to throughout the week, and like every other Friday, I woke up this morning with a childlike excitement to hear some of the songs that I have gearing up for all week and decided to share them with you, in the hopes that you will add them to your playlists.

  1. Harry Styles – Lights Up

Firstly, I would like to take this moment to publicly declare that Harry Styles is our king and we shall protect him at all costs. The former 1D star broke the internet last night and sent hysteria throughout the Directioner community after he broke his year-long silence on Instagram to promote his new single Lights Up. The music video is a far cry from his days in One Direction and sees the singer strip off and dance topless with an array of semi-naked dancers. Lights Up is also being praised for serving “big bisexual energy”, and with Harry dropping the song on National Coming Out Day, fans are questioning if he is addressing the rumours surrounding his sexuality.

2. Meduza x Becky Hill X Goodboys- Lose Control

If you haven’t heard of Meduza or the Goodboys yet then I am assuming that you spent your summer living under a rock, because their electronic anthem, ‘Piece of your Heart’, is one of the biggest hits of 2019, having scored the coveted spot of number one on the UK Big Top 40, becoming multiplatinum-certified and amassing over 500 million streams worldwide it continues to be a global success. Following on from their stellar debut, they have teamed up again, this time adding vocal powerhouse Becky Hill for another catchy, club anthem that will definitely top the charts.

3. JoJo- Joanna

JoJo is one of my favourite singers, and someone who I have stanned since 2004 (her debut album was actually the first album I ever bought). She has been laying relatively low since releasing comeback album Mad Love in 2o16, but it turns out that she has switched labels since we heard from her last and is now signed to Warner Records and has been writing with the likes of Grammy-winning writer Dianne Warren. Her latest single ‘Joanna’ is a hard-hitting response to critics over the years, with lyrics such as ‘You should date somebody famous, that’ll probably put you on the A-list.’ Fans should be excited as this is clearly the beginning of a new era.

4. 88Rising x Stephanie Poetri x Jackson Wang- I Love You 3000 II

“I Love You 3000 II” is a beautiful song sung by Stephanie Poetri and Jackson Wang, featuring an soft vocal performance by the pair, accompanied by the sounds of an acoustic guitar. The song features on 88rising’s new album which also features the likes of Rich Brian, Nikki and Chun Ha.

5. Cigarettes After Sex- Falling In Love

I am an emotional wreck 99 percent of the time but after listening to the soft vocals of Greg Gonzalez on this song, I may or may not have shed a tear or several. Falling In Love is a love letter of sorts to his girlfriend detailing their relationship and their experience with being long distance. In the song, he talks about the different ways they grew as a couple despite living miles apart, and it will be featured on the band’s upcoming album Cry that is due to be released on 25th October.
