There’s always ups and downs in life and sometimes there is nothing you can do but escape into a different world for a while. For me, books and music have always been my chosen Utopia. However, each book in my archive deserves an entire article to fully explain the wonders of it, so I’ll stick to music for this one.
Ironically, listening to sad music with a slightly hopeful tone makes me feel better when I’m down. Maybe that’s because I get a good cry in, which usually makes me feel a little better.
Without further ado, here is my list of sad, upbeat songs.
1. “BLUE” – Troye Sivan, Alex Hope.
Anything by Troye Sivan, really.
2. “Be As You Are” – Mike Posner
You may not like Mike Posner, but trust me, this song is worth it.
3. “Colder Weather” – Zac Brown Band
Whatever reservations you may have about country music, put them to rest for at least 4 minutes and 33 seconds, because this song is perfect. The guy in the song may be a f-ckboy but the melody is everything you need.
4. “Colors” – Halsey
Vocals may not be everything but the lyrics are.
5. “Foreigner’s God” – Hozier
Seriously, check out his entire album Hozier.
6. “I Have Nothing” – Whitney Houston
A classic to belt while crying.
7. “Imagine” – John Lennon
Another classic by another legend that takes you to another universe with his unique voice.
8. “In Too Deep” – The Sweeplings
This song has a sweet melody and haunting lyrics.
9. “It’s Gonna Find You” – Bombs Over Nowhere
The lyrics of this song never fails to make to put a light in the darkness.
10. “Mirror” – Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars
Definitely, something we’ve all felt.
11. “A Change Is Gonna Come” – Sam Cooke
This song never ages.
I have a lot now songs that help me through the bad times, but I can’t list them all here. Instead, I made a Spotify playlist with every song I already mentioned and more.
